Head Project Management Unit





NIEPA undertakes a number of sponsored as well as in-house research projects for which project Staff are appointed as per the approval accorded by the Competent Authority. These positions are purely temporary/contractual; and are managed keeping in view the specific requirements of individual research studies and development programmes. The Institute undertakes projects and sponsored studies, funded by its Nodal Ministry, other Departments/States, PSUs and the International Organizations. To handle all the administrative activities pertaining to various research projects, it was resolved in the 16th meeting of the Board of Management to create the Project Management Unit (PMU) in NIEPA. Subsequently, the PMU was established vide Notification No.22-1/2012-Acad dated February, 02, 2014.Presently, the PMU is headed by Prof. K. Srinivas, Head ICT and Project Management Unit.

Management all the activities of various projects undertaken in the Institute and the matters pertaining to the Project Staff right from the stage of recruitment till the end of their contractual service are handled by the Project Management Unit, constituted for the purpose with the approval of the Board of Management.

Handling all the matters concerning the funding as well as accounting of these projects.

Obtaining the updated progress reports from the faculty members at the end of every quarter and preparation of the lists of the completed and on-going research studies based on these progress reports.

Preparation of the advertisement and briefs of the applications.

Conducting the meetings of the Screening Committees and Selection Committees for interviews for various project positions and preparations of Minutes.

Recruitment and appointment of Project Staff to be deployed in various projects and also in administrative departments, sections, units and centres.

Processing of all the requests received for fresh appointments and extension of the project staff after thorough examination of each case.

Maintenance of personal files, leave records, attendance etc. in respect of the all-project staff.

Preparation of the monthly salary of the project staff.

Issue of Offer letters, relieving, experience and other related certificates/documents to the project staff on completion of their term or on tendering resignation by any of them

Processing of the cases pertaining to the maternity leave to the female project employees and make recommendations in accordance with the rules and regulations on the subject matter

Issue of Notifications regarding initiation of the new projects and further extension (if any) of the term of the project and the term of appointment of the project staff from time to time

Handling all matters pertaining to the externally funded projects.

Processing the matters related to the transfer of money to the states.


PMU looks after the works related to the Grants-in-Aid Scheme of the Ministry of Education, Govt. India, which involves:

Preparation of the briefs of the proposals received from various organizations for grants in aid and present them before the Grants-in-Aid Committee (GIAC) to facilitate them during the meetings.

Conduct of the meetings of the GIAC and preparation of the Minutes of the meetings.

Issue of sanction letters.

Maintaining records of the each of the grantee institutions separately.

Monitoring the timely receipt of the required documents and subsequent disbursement of grants after examination of the documents.


NIEPA has constituted an Internal Research Review Committee to have sound mechanism and strategy to disseminate the research through publications in various forms like report book, research papers, occasional papers etc. IRRC also reviews the new research proposals submitted by the NIEPA faculty members before they are sent to the external reviewers for their comments. PMU assists the Internal Research Review Committee in the following ways:

By maintaining records of all the research studies to be placed for the consideration by the IRRC.

Conducting the meetings of the IRRC from time to time and preparing the Minutes in consultation with the Committee.

Communicating decisions and recommendations of the Committee to the concerned and taking necessary action on the recommendations of the Committee.
